Banijay Iberia is advancing into vertical microdrama with the development of three innovative short-form projects. The titles, F**cking Honeymoon, Fortu & Jazz, and a new anime project, mark a strategic push into mobile-optimised content for emerging, next-generation platforms. The deal was unveiled at Series Mania in Lille, where Banijay Entertainment is showcasing its latest scripted slate, and Steve Matthews, Head of Scripted, is speaking on the Microdrama Apps panel.
The three titles span a comedic high-octane relationship story F**cking Honeymoon, where a perfect romantic escape unravels into chaos; a contemporary adaptation of classic Spanish literary IP in Fortu & Jazz; and a new anime project. Developed using a hybrid of live-action, anime-influenced visuals, and AI-supported creative tools, these projects leverage vertical framing and mobile-first production for snackable, high-impact 9:16 viewing.
Pilar Blasco, CEO Banijay Iberia comments: “Creative innovation and ambition are always central to our approach. These projects give our teams the space to push boundaries into new forms of storytelling and embrace a fresh visual production style aligning with rapidly evolving audience behaviour. Developing ideas in this space gives us the potential to build new franchises and deliver premium content at micro-scale without compromising the quality we are known for.”
Banijay Iberia’s move aligns with wider group momentum in the microdrama space, including recent expansion in the Americas, where Endemol Shine Brasil and A Fábrica have partnered to create a slate of vertical-format microdramas, leveraging Endemol Shine Brasil’s production leadership and A Fábrica’s scripted expertise to serve mobile first audiences a brand ecosystem. Meanwhile, today it was also announced Banijay Finland has been commissioned by Yle to produce a 20 x 5 series, Survival Sisters, to run across the broadcaster’s streaming and social media platforms.
