BBC Studios Hit Comedy Format Ghosts Set For Local Adaptation In Czechia
At its 50th annual Showcase event in London, BBC Studios announced that the hit UK comedy format "Ghosts" is heading to Czechia. Commercial broadcaster TV Nova has commissioned a local adaptation consisting of 12 x 35’ episodes, which will be produced in-house.  This agreement marks the seventh international territory for the format, joining adaptations in the U.S., Australia, France, Germany, and Greece.

The announcement coincides with the news that the German adaptation of "Ghosts" has been greenlit for a second season by broadcasters WDR and ARD Mediathek. The format continues to show strong global performance, with the fourth series in the U.S. ranking as the #1 returning comedy.

Rose Hughes, Senior Vice President for Format sales at BBC Studios said: “'Ghosts' is among the most consistently successful comedy properties on the global market. The magic of the format is that every territory gets to build its own afterlife, populated with ghosts who are deeply specific to its heritage; all set within the framework of a housemate comedy. This is a chance for world-building on a truly local level, where history can be celebrated and characters created that could only exist in each culture. We’re thrilled to welcome Czechia into the Ghosts family and excited to see the format generating even more success as new markets bring their own versions to life.”

Tomáš Baldýnský, creative producer from TV Nova added: "'Ghosts' is a sitcom about characters from all different walks of life existing together. Our history is very entertaining, and we can't wait to see it represented through the humour of Ghosts.”
