At MIPLondon on Tuesday, February 23, a special showcase and Q&A session spotlighted Greenwashed, the provocative new documentary created by award-winning broadcaster and conservationist Chris Packham together with physician and filmmaker Dr. Sofia Pineda Ochoa.
Presented to an audience of international buyers and industry professionals, the session offered a preview of the first 17 minutes of the film and introduced a project positioned not only as a documentary, but as a powerful editorial intervention in the global environmental debate.
Structured in five parts, Greenwashed confronts what its creators describe as the existential ecological crises facing the planet. The documentary takes a critical stance by challenging widely accepted narratives and highlighting difficult truths that, according to the filmmakers, are often overlooked or underplayed even within parts of the environmental movement.
The project is conceived as an urgent call to action, addressing the interconnected threats affecting humans, wildlife and ecosystems, while questioning whether current communication strategies around sustainability are sufficiently honest about the scale and speed of the crisis.
The showcase placed strong emphasis on the editorial voice of Chris Packham, whose four-decade career in broadcasting and conservation has reshaped how television audiences engage with the natural world.
Opening the session, Packham addressed the audience directly with a stark reflection on the purpose of the film and the broader environmental context:
He described a world in “deep, deep trouble,” stressing that the ecological crisis affects every species and ecosystem. Drawing on the latest scientific data, he pointed to systemic risks that could have profound societal consequences, including the potential disruption of major climate-regulating systems such as the Atlantic circulation, which could dramatically alter weather patterns in the UK and Europe.
Packham acknowledged that many people working in environmental media and advocacy operate within a “bubble” of awareness, and framed Greenwashed as an attempt to break beyond that circle by communicating urgency with honesty, courage and emotional clarity. From a market perspective, Greenwashed aligns with a growing demand for high-impact factual content that combines investigative framing with strong authorial identity. The film’s structure allows for both feature-length delivery and potential segmented programming, offering flexibility for different broadcast and platform strategies.
