Mediawan Kids & Family has announced a new strategic alliance with the Mexican production house Elefantec Global. The partnership aims to launch "Boo!", a new live-action series project created by Luis Mariani, known for his work on global hits like "Casi Ángeles" and "Violetta".
"Boo!" is designed as a long-running live-action series for the 8-12 pre-teen demographic, consisting of 80 episodes of 30 minutes each. The story follows Mariela, a teenager living in a rural area who attempts to save her town’s local hotel from closing by creating a fake haunting to attract tourists. What begins as a clever ruse involving special effects and music eventually spirals out of control.
"This new project underscores Mediawan Kids & Family’s ongoing commitment to refreshing iconic genres for new generations, and BOO! is a perfect illustration of this ambition. We have always aimed to modernize great classics for young audiences, just as we have done with The Little Prince, Little Nicholas, and Robin Hood. Working with Elefantec’s experienced team, a true reference in the live-action series format, is a real source of pride for us.” stated Julien Borde, President of Mediawan Kids & Family.
Music will serve as a foundational element of the series, though the producers clarify it is not a traditional musical comedy. Instead, musical performances are integrated organically into the plot, with characters forming bands and sharing songs that drive the narrative. This approach is intended to support a broader transmedia strategy, mirroring the success of previous teenage phenomena.
“At Elefantec, this genre is at our core, as the entire team has been producing and distributing it for over 20 years. Our experience in developing this type of format for young audiences makes the alliance with Mediawan Kids & Family a natural partnership that will allow us to reach a larger market through stories with global appeal.” said Pepe Bastón, CEO and founder of Elefantec Global.
