Banijay Rights announced that PBS Distribution has acquired the drama series “Bergerac” for the US market. The deal, secured ahead of the London TV Screenings 2026, includes the first two seasons of the reimagined detective drama, which are scheduled to debut on PBS later this year.
Negotiated by Matt Creasey, EVP Sales, Co-Productions & Acquisitions at Banijay Rights, the agreement brings the Jersey-based production to American audiences following its massive success in the UK.
Produced by BlackLight TV (part of Banijay UK) and Westward Studios, the series stars Damien Molony as Jim Bergerac. The first season reached 2.4 million viewers on U and U&DRAMA, becoming the highest-rated program on UKTV’s network in 2025.
The modern version of the show, based on the original series created by Robert Banks Stewart, features a contemporary twist with a single character-led mystery spanning the entire six-episode season. The cast includes Zoë Wanamaker, Philip Glenister, and Adrian Edmondson. The US deal follows a string of international sales to territories including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and several European markets.
Matt Creasey said: “Stylish, enthralling and an edge-of-your-seat detective drama, ‘Bergerac’ is destined to be huge draw for US audiences, so we couldn’t be more pleased with this deal. Featuring Jim Bergerac’s iconic Triumph Roadster car and set against the stunning backdrop of Jersey, this is a series that continues to generate worldwide attention as we head into next week’s London TV Screenings.”
Germaine Sweet, Head of Content Acquisition and Sales, PBS Distribution, added: “This smart re-imagining of the iconic detective series is sure to capture the attention of audiences in the US."
Ben Bickerton and Philip Trethowan, Executive Producers, BlackLight TV, said: “We are thrilled that ‘Bergerac’ will find a new audience in the US. With its gripping stories, stellar cast and stunning locations, we are sure they will be hooked.”
