Madrid Strengthens Its International Position at Berlinale

Madrid Strengthens Its International Position at Berlinale
At the Berlinale (Berlin 12-22 February, 2026), the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster organized a professional networking event on Saturday 14 February, in collaboration with Madrid Film Office and Film Madrid Region. The gathering took place at the Wandelbar space of the Marriott Hotel and brought together producers, distributors, buyers, and industry professionals including representatives from Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay.

The event highlighted Madrid’s growing international profile and served as a platform to foster new business relationships while reinforcing existing collaborations across European and global markets.
Teresa Azcona, Managing Director of the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, presented the organization’s strategic roadmap and key objectives to an audience that included member companies and representatives from its Board of Directors. Their presence underscored a shared commitment to strengthening the competitiveness, international projection, and long-term growth of Madrid’s audiovisual ecosystem.

The session also emphasized the strong institutional backing provided by both the Regional Government and the City of Madrid. Luis Lloret and Xiomara García, representing Film Madrid Region, outlined the regional administration’s support policies, while María Prada and Víctor Aertsen of Madrid Film Office detailed the city-level initiatives designed to attract productions, facilitate filming, and enhance Madrid’s appeal as a production-friendly destination.
Together, these coordinated public–private efforts form the backbone of a strategy aimed at positioning Madrid as a streamlined, competitive, and internationally connected production environment.

Several Cluster members also contributed to the programme. Rafael Alberola, Head of ECAM Industria, highlighted the importance of ECAM Forum, the international co-production platform promoted by the Madrid Film School (ECAM) to support emerging talent and facilitate connections with international partners.

The international dimension of the Cluster’s activities was further reinforced through its Internationalization Committee, represented by Iberseries & Platino Industria. Co-director Samuel Castro announced that the sixth edition of the event will take place from September 29 to October 2, 2026, at Matadero Madrid. Now established as the leading business event for Spanish- and Portuguese-language audiovisual content, the market has become a strategic meeting point for producers, distributors, buyers, and platforms from across Ibero-America and Europe.
The Madrid delegation’s participation at EFM is coordinated under the Madrid Make it Possible brand, which integrates the activities of Film Madrid Region, Madrid Film Office, and the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster. This unified presence reflects a clear strategic objective: to reinforce Madrid’s positioning as an international production hub capable of offering competitive infrastructure, institutional support, and a dynamic creative ecosystem.

In addition to the official networking activities, Cluster members are actively participating in both the market and the Berlinale’s parallel programming, further showcasing the talent, production capacity, and creative diversity associated with the Madrid audiovisual industry.
Through this coordinated international strategy, Madrid continues to strengthen its visibility in key global markets, positioning itself not only as a filming destination but as a strategic partner for international co-production, content development, and long-term industry collaboration.
