BritBox has commissioned a contemporary reimagining of the iconic British detective series “Dalziel and Pascoe”, based on the novels by Reginald Hill, with ITV confirmed as the UK broadcast partner. The six-part drama is produced by West Road Pictures, an All3Media company, in association with All3Media International.
The new adaptation revisits the central partnership between the gruff, seasoned detective Dalziel and the newly qualified, by-the-book DS Pascoe. Despite their opposing personalities and investigative approaches, the pair form an unlikely but highly effective team, with the series blending sharp humour, emotional depth and character-driven crime storytelling.
The updated series is co-created by Colette Kane (“Department Q”) and Daisy Martey (“Vikings: Valhalla”), with Kane also serving as lead writer and executive producer. Additional writers include Chris Ryden and Jon Rowe, alongside Danusia Samal (“Gangs of London”).
The series will stream on BritBox in the US and Canada. As UK partners, ITV’s Director of Drama Polly Hill and Commissioner and Head of Scripted Comedy Nana Hughes have collaborated closely with BritBox on the project, with Hughes overseeing production for ITV. The drama will air on ITV and STV, with streaming availability on ITVX and STV Player.
Jon Farrar, EVP Programming at BritBox, said: “’Dalziel and Pascoe’ has always been about friction, intellect, and the uneasy bond of opposites, forged in pursuit of truth. Dalziel and Pascoe’s chemistry, wit, and moral clarity perfectly complement this richly layered mystery. It’s timeless crime storytelling that not only honours but sharpens its legacy.”
Nana Hughes, Commissioner and Head of Scripted Comedy at ITV, added: “It’s a genuine privilege to bring Reginald Hill’s much-loved Dalziel and Pascoe back to the screen for a new audience. At the heart of this series is the enduring, unexpected chemistry between two very different detectives, and we’re excited to explore that new dynamic.”
Jonathan Fisher, Managing Director of West Road Pictures, described the project as a milestone for the company, noting that the series represents its fifth drama commission since launching in 2019.
Filming is set to begin in spring 2026 in the north of England. All3Media International is serving as the global distribution partner on the project.
