MIPCOM CANNES today announced that Secuoya Studios will receive the MIP SDG AWARD, presented in association with the United Nations, in recognition of the studio’s outstanding commitment to sustainable production. The award will be presented during MIPCOM CANNES 2025, the world’s largest global market for television and streaming content, taking place 13–16 October.
Launched in 2020, the MIP SDG AWARD celebrates excellence in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through impactful editorial content, business innovation, and industry leadership. Previous honourees include A+E Networks, Junk Kouture, Open Planet, Sky, Studio Silverback, and Ubongo.
This year, the award recognises Secuoya Studios’ ambitious programme to reduce the environmental footprint of audiovisual production, both within the company and across the broader industry. The studio has implemented sustainable practices on large-scale Spanish productions such as Montecristo and Zorro, expanding these efforts across subsequent titles including Shades (Matices)—a co-production with Stellarmedia that premiered on SkyShowtime—and the newly announced The Tribute (El Homenaje).
The award will be presented by Caroline Petit, Deputy Director of the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Europe, on Wednesday 15 October at 12:00, during a special session at the MIP CREATIVE HUB showcasing real-world sustainability initiatives. These include: Greenbook, an open-access Sustainable Filming Protocol developed by the Secuoya Foundation in collaboration with eco-consultancy Mrs. Greenfilm. The 120-point manual, launched in 2022, serves as a practical guide adopted by all Secuoya Studios productions to date.
The creation of the Sustainable Management Seal, a pioneering certification developed with TÜV SÜD, a global leader in sustainability and safety standards, and the first of its kind in the audiovisual sector.
The establishment of a dedicated Sustainability in Production department within the studio, incorporating an Eco Manager on every project. Additionally, through Secuoya Studios’ collaboration with The Core School University, sustainability principles are actively taught to the next generation of industry professionals.
Caroline Petit commented:“I thank MIPCOM CANNES for providing this important annual platform and warmly congratulate Secuoya Studios on their commitment to sustainable production. Their work embodies the momentum we see across the media industry to advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.”
Lucy Smith, Director of MIPCOM CANNES, added:“Television’s ability to effect real change—both on screen and behind the scenes—has never been more essential. By embedding practical, measurable sustainability practices into every stage of production and sharing these learnings openly, Secuoya Studios is setting a powerful example. We’re proud to spotlight their leadership.”
Brendan Fitzgerald, CEO of Secuoya Studios, expressed his appreciation:“We are honoured to receive this award from MIP and the United Nations. At Secuoya Studios, sustainability is more than a value—it’s a commitment that shapes the way we create, produce, and deliver stories to the world. Grounded in innovation, technology, and collaboration, our approach proves that sustainable practices can be effectively applied industry-wide. This recognition reinforces that message.”
