Gaumont Marks 130th Anniversary with Retrospective at the Academy Museum
In celebration of its 130th anniversary, iconic French studio Gaumont, the world’s oldest film company, has partnered with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles to present a special month-long retrospective highlighting its extraordinary cinematic legacy.

Kicking off on September 11 with a private screening of Jean-Luc Godard’s Weekend—attended by Gaumont CEO Sidonie Dumas, Gaumont US President Nicolas Atlan, and Academy Museum Director Amy Homma—the retrospective will feature 12 feature films and a special showcase of 12 early silent shorts, each representing a milestone from one of the company’s 13 decades of filmmaking.
Curated in collaboration with the Academy Museum’s programming team, the series explores Gaumont’s rich and diverse catalogue, from the early pioneering works of Alice Guy-Blaché and Émile Cohl to poetic masterpieces like Jean Vigo’s L’Atalante and contemporary gems like The Taste of Things, starring Juliette Binoche. Also included are Max Ophüls’ The Earrings of Madame de…, The Passion of Joan of Arc, OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies, Fassbinder’s Querelle, and Maurice Pialat’s Van Gogh.

“This collaboration reflects Gaumont’s commitment to storytelling innovation and cultural preservation,” said Sidonie Dumas. “It’s a powerful way to reflect on our past while inspiring future generations of filmmakers.” Amy Homma added, “Gaumont’s influence on cinema is monumental. We are proud to honor their legacy and share these landmark works with audiences in Los Angeles.”

The retrospective runs from September 11 to October 11 at the Academy Museum’s David Geffen Theater.
