Sky will premiere on June 27 and 28 the new Sky Original docuseries Il Cono d’Ombra: La storia di Denis Bergamini created by Pablo Trincia, Debora Campanella, and Paolo Negro that revisits one of the most controversial and unresolved cases in Italian crime history.
It was November 1989, when Denis Bergamini, a rising football star for Cosenza Calcio, was found dead on a highway along the Calabrian coast, apparently hit by a truck. At the time, authorities ruled it a suicide, but Bergamini’s family never accepted that explanation. Since that day, his death has remained shrouded in a “shadow cone” of silence, cover-ups, and unanswered questions.
The docuseries, airing on Sky TG24, Sky Crime, Sky Documentaries, Sky Sport, streaming on NOW, and available on demand, consists of four episodes combining previously unseen testimonies, court records, archival footage, and personal videos filmed by Denis himself. It is a visually powerful and at times intimate narrative that aims to recover not just the darkness surrounding his death, but also the light of his life.
Leading the project is Pablo Trincia, who had already explored the case in a widely popular podcast. “It took me a while to decide to take on the Denis Bergamini case,” Trincia explained. “I only knew the story superficially and feared there wouldn’t be enough audio or video material. I changed my mind after speaking with lawyer Fabio Anselmo and his team. Despite the case dating back to 1989, there were many recordings, enough to build a compelling narrative.”
Produced by Sky TG24, Sky Crime, and Sky Documentaries in collaboration with TapelessFilm and with the support of the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, the series goes beyond the mystery itself. It is a civil and emotional investigation that reveals just how difficult, but necessary, it is to pursue justice, even decades later. And it restores focus on the memory of Denis, and those who never stopped fighting for the truth.
