MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo will return to Rome from October 19 to 23 for its 12th edition, bringing a new market layout and an expanded focus on financing, animation and emerging forms of storytelling. Promoted by ANICA and APA and directed by Gaia Tridente, MIA 2026 will transform Via Veneto and Piazza Barberini into a district dedicated to the international film and audiovisual industry, connecting creativity, industry, finance and innovation. The market has received more than 630 project submissions from 83 countries, representing a 26% increase compared with 2025. Following the selection process, 104 projects from 43 countries will take part in MIA’s industry programmes, including the Co-Production & Gap Financing Market and Work-in-Progress sessions.
The edition will also introduce the European Investment Hub and the Animation Series Gap Financing Market, alongside a programme of more than 40 conferences, talks and meetings featuring 85 international speakers across seven official venues. Among the new initiatives, MIA will place greater emphasis on financing opportunities and emerging forms of serial storytelling, while continuing to connect international projects with industry professionals and potential partners.
Gaia Tridente, Director of MIA, said: “This edition of MIA is built around a precise ambition: to read market transformations as they happen and translate them into concrete opportunities for the industry. The programme brings together projects, voices and leading figures from the international industry in a constellation of different themes, experiences and perspectives, creating new connections and reflecting the complexity and transformations of the contemporary market. It connects creativity, industry, finance and innovation, making the programme more fluid, cross-cutting and international. MIA’s role is increasingly defined by this ability to connect ideas, capital, talent and companies: a system infrastructure serving the audiovisual sector and a privileged observatory on the transformations of the global industry, capable not only of interpreting change, but also of generating opportunities, attracting investment, opening new markets and strengthening the competitiveness of the national and international industry.”
