AMC Global Media, ITV Studios and Constantin Film have announced that crime drama Smilla’s Sense of Snow will make its U.S. and Canadian debut on AMC+, as the series continues to expand its international footprint.The agreement is the latest in a string of distribution deals secured by ITV Studios, which holds worldwide distribution rights to the production. Brokered by Rob Kaplan, Senior Vice President of Sales for the U.S. and Latin America at ITV Studios, the deal highlights the international appeal of the series, based on one of the best-known works of Scandinavian literature.
It also reinforces Constantin Film’s credentials as a producer of premium drama and ITV Studios’ position as a global distributor of high-end content across key international markets.
The modern adaptation of Peter Høeg’s worldwide bestseller stars Filippa Coster-Waldau, Elyas M’Barek and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and is directed by BAFTA Winner Amma Asante (“Belle”, “Mrs. America”, “The Handmaid’s Tale”). Amanda Collin, Morten Suurballe, Silver Wolfe, Set Sjöstrand and Alexandre Willaume also feature.

She is alone and leads a withdrawn life until she meets a young Inuit boy who finds a way to her heart. When the boy suddenly dies in mysterious circumstances, Smilla wants to know why. Her search for answers leads her to the icy scenery of Greenland and right to the center of dangerous political power games. Smilla’s extraordinary abilities are the key to the truth - about the boy and her own identity.
Smilla’s Sense of Snow is a Constantin Film production in co-production with Viaplay, ARD Degeto Film and Baltic Film Services and is produced in association with ITV Studios, which also handles international distribution. The crime drama series is directed by BAFTA Winner Amma Asante, who is also an Executive Producer alongside Oliver Berben, Robert Kulzer, Pipaluk K. Jørgensen and Tina Hastings.

Smilla’s Sense of Snow is the latest addition to AMC+'s curated slate of premium content, including the recently announced Kill Jackie, starring and executive produced by Catherine Zeta-Jones, and YAGA, an alluring new mystery series starring Heated Rivalry's Hudson Williams and Carrie-Anne Moss, both of which will debut on AMC+ this October.
