RTVE is heading to MIPCOM Cannes 2026 with a scripted slate spanning crime, comedy, historical thriller and biographical drama, led by Rojo sobre Blanco, La Frontera, Barrio Esperanza, Sin Gluten and Rocío.
Among the new titles is Rojo sobre Blanco (8 x 70’, 2026), a police procedural centred on Daniela, a forensic linguist living in Madrid whose exceptional ability to detect clues hidden in language emerges during a high-profile kidnapping investigation. Her skills bring her into the orbit of police inspector Mario, who is rebuilding his own life after a marital crisis. Combining crime investigation with comedy, emotion and a growing attraction between its two leads, the series uses language itself as a key investigative weapon.
Also on RTVE’s slate is La Frontera (5 x 60’, 2025), a historical thriller set in 1987, when France begins cooperating with Spain in the fight against ETA. After the organisation decides not to extend its attacks into France, a dissident group secretly plans an operation in Paris. A young Guardia Civil captain discovers the plot through an intercepted coded message and is drawn into a race to prevent the attack.
Drama with a strong human dimension comes with Barrio Esperanza (8 x 75’, 2025). The series follows Esperanza, a former drug smuggler who earns a teaching degree while in prison and later becomes a primary-school teacher. Once in the classroom, she discovers that the lessons learned during her time behind bars may prove just as useful as her formal training, while teaching gives her the possibility of reshaping both her own life and those of her pupils.
Food, second chances and social inclusion are at the heart of Sin Gluten – Gluten Free (8 x 55’, 2025). Ricardo, a successful chef struggling to acknowledge his alcohol problem, loses his job after a serious mistake and returns to the cooking school where he trained, this time as a teacher. Working with students from very different backgrounds, including young people at risk of social exclusion, gradually reconnects him with both his passion for cooking and a more authentic way of living.
Completing the scripted selection is Rocío (4 x 70’, 2026), a major biographical drama dedicated to Spanish music icon Rocío Jurado. The series traces her journey from childhood in Chipiona to Madrid and international stardom as “La Más Grande”, portraying both the celebrated artist and the woman behind the public image. Framed as a story of talent, freedom, ambition and sacrifice, the drama explores the rise of a performer who helped transform Spanish popular music and extend its reach beyond the country’s borders.
