8 Lions Entertainment has secured a multi-format deal with Australia’s public service broadcaster ABC for Monster Makes, the British preschool series produced by Terrific Television for CBeebies in partnership with the BBC. The agreement covers linear free-to-air and Free-Video-On-Demand rights for ABC Kids and ABC iview, bringing the series to Australian preschool audiences from September 21.
Monster Makes combines high-end CGI, 2D animation and live action with crafting, comedy and imaginative storytelling. The series encourages children to transform everyday recycled materials into creative Makes that they can recreate at home.
The deal also includes a library of Australia-themed compilations created through a digital-first production pipeline for the official Monster Makes YouTube channel, which was launched and is managed by 8 Lions. The locally tailored content will focus on Australian wildlife, coastal environments and outdoor lifestyles, extending the brand beyond its broadcast presence. “Monster Makes extends the experience beyond the screen through creative activities, inviting preschoolers to make, create and play,” said Maria-Nicole Miriklis, Acquisitions Manager at ABC.
Jiella Esmat, CEO of 8 Lions Entertainment, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Terrific Television and the ABC to bring Monster Makes to Australian audiences, demonstrating what's possible when digital and broadcast coexist in a single strategy, and data influences the production pipeline.”
Driana Jones, Executive Producer at Terrific Television, added: “We created Monster Makes to inspire children to see the creative possibilities in everyday recycled materials, so we’re absolutely delighted that the series is coming to ABC, the perfect home for the original show and digital ‘Makes’ in Australia.”
