Woodcut Media has unveiled its latest true crime documentary, Hair Fetish Killer, which is set to premiere on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland later this year. Sphere Abacus will distribute the 90-minute feature internationally.
Currently in production, the documentary revisits the investigation into the 2002 murder of a mother whose mutilated body was discovered in Bournemouth, England, holding two precisely cut clumps of hair. The case ultimately led detectives more than 1,000 miles away to Potenza, Italy, with the investigation spanning eight years before a second victim helped police identify and arrest the killer.
The one-off documentary is produced and directed by Hannah Webster. Nick Mavroidakis, Koulla Anastasi and Anna Sadowy serve as executive producers.
Hannah Webster, Series Producer at Woodcut Media, said: “The documentary shines a light on how investigators both in the UK and Italy tirelessly hunted the killer despite numerous challenges, dedicating their lives to securing justice for the families involved. It took 18 years of a dangerous murderer walking free before he was finally locked up, never to be released again!”
Will Stapley, Global Content Director at Sphere Abacus, added: “We are delighted to be working again with leading factual producer Woodcut Media. Their expertise in premium true crime series has produced yet another gripping documentary that explores one of the most disturbing and psychologically complex murder cases, which we are certain will grab the interest of audiences worldwide.”
The project marks another collaboration between Woodcut Media and Sphere Abacus following a string of true crime documentaries for Prime Video, including Confessions of a Female Serial Killer, Murdered or Missing: The Millionaire’s Babies, The Murder of Joanna Yeates, Murder in Concrete, Krays: London’s Gangsters, The London Underground Killer, The Murder of Sandra Rivett and The Crossbow Cannibal.
