Punkrobot’s Brave Cat Wins Audience Award at Annecy 2026
Chilean animation studio Punkrobot’s debut feature film Brave Cat has won the Audience Award at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, marking another international milestone for the Oscar-winning studio behind Bear Story. Ahead of its Annecy premiere, Cartoon Brew described Brave Cat as "one of the most anticipated animation premieres in this year's Annecy Presents section," adding: "Brave Cat is a story that is simultaneously intimate and expansive. It is a deeply personal reflection on one family’s history, a tribute to Patagonia, an experiment in handcrafted digital filmmaking, and a meditation on one of humanity’s most difficult and ever-present questions."
Director Gabriel Osorio Vargas said: "If you can produce empathy in a kid so he can understand the value and the meaning of human rights, I think that’s everything for me."

Punkrobot has become one of Latin America’s leading animation studios since Bear Story became the first Chilean film to win an Academy Award in 2016. The studio has since expanded its international profile, including producing an episode for Disney’s Star Wars: Visions, while continuing to focus on emotionally driven storytelling. Paris-based sales agency Indie Sales is handling worldwide distribution rights for Brave Cat.
The 93-minute feature follows Kona, a teenage forest cat, who sets out to find her mother after she is kidnapped by dogs working for humans. Alongside Colin, an abandoned guard dog puppy, and Bernard, an aging circus bear on the run, she embarks on a journey across the country in search of their lost families. Despite their differences, the three companions form an unlikely bond that transforms them forever.

Brave Cat is a Chilean production aimed at audiences of all ages. Combining 3D computer animation and cut-out techniques, the adventure features political themes and is directed and written by Gabriel Osorio. The film is produced by Pato Escala for Punkrobot, with music by José Miguel Miranda and José Miguel Tobar.
