Banijay Kids & Family is bringing back its hit musical fantasy franchise LoliRock, with France Télévisions commissioning a third season nearly a decade after the original run concluded in 2017. Produced by Banijay Kids & Family label Zodiak Kids & Family France alongside Xentrix Studios, the 26 x 22-minute series will see creator and original director Jean-Louis Vandestoc return to the franchise.
The new season reintroduces the magical pop property with a refreshed approach that places music at the centre of the storytelling. Combining 2D-rendered CGI animation, original pop songs and high-energy performances, the series aims to engage both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers. In season three, the princesses return to Earth following their victory over Gramorr and prepare for a global concert tour. Their plans are disrupted when Praxina, seeking revenge for her brother Mephisto, emerges as a powerful new threat, forcing LoliRock to protect the planet while travelling the world.
“Together with Benoît Di Sabatino, I am delighted to bring LoliRock back into the spotlight. Music has always been at the soul of this iconic IP and of the unique connection it shares with its audience. We are approaching the new songs with the same creative ambition as the series universe itself, to bring hits that will extend the adventure beyond the screen. It was the obvious choice to reunite with Jean-Louis Vandestoc for this exciting challenge, alongside Nandish Domlur and our long-standing partner France Télévisions. We cannot wait for Lolirockers and new audiences alike to discover this new chapter, where music, adventure and magic reach new heights,” said Bastien Fauré, Production Supervisor at Zodiak Kids & Family France.
Jean-Louis Vandestoc added: “It is with great excitement and pride that return to LoliRock for a third season! Taking on this adventure and reconnecting with this universe and its vibrant community is a true joy. The new season gives us the opportunity to push the boundaries even further, taking our heroines to bold new visual and storytelling horizons. More of an evolution than a revolution, this new chapter remains deeply rooted in everything audiences love about LoliRock while expanding its scope and ambition.”
Jean-Baptiste Lamotte, Head of Kids Program and Animation at France Télévisions, commented: “The LoliRock phenomenon is back! A new season with a faithfully modernized design, brought to life by the talents at Zodiak Kids & Family France and its longtime animator, Jean-Louis Vandestoc. An original creation from Okoo that we are proud to support once again.”
Nandish Domlur, CEO of Xentrix Studios, said: “We are absolutely delighted to join forces with Zodiak Kids & Family as co-producers for the upcoming season. It is incredibly exciting to be part of the reboot of such an iconic musical franchise and to have the opportunity to bring season 3 to life for its global fandom. Xentrix Studios is producing the new season on a unique and innovative pipeline, which will elevate the visuals and storytelling to the next level. Our ultimate goal is to surprise and delight the fans, and we cannot wait to show everyone what we've been building.”
Originally launched in 2014, LoliRock was sold into more than 150 territories and expanded beyond television through music releases, licensing initiatives and a strong digital footprint, becoming one of the most recognisable music-driven animation brands in the international market.
