Belgium-based distributor Primitives has secured a second-season commitment from FOX for competition format 99 to Beat, following the performance of its debut run in the US market. The entertainment format follows 100 contestants competing in a series of unpredictable physical and comedic games where the only rule is simple: do not finish last. At the end of each round, the final-placed contestant is eliminated until one player remains to claim the grand prize.

This return for a second season on FOX is the best testament to that fact. It also allows us to extend our creative development within the show so we’re excited to reveal how we can push the concept even further and bring audiences an even bigger, more entertaining experience.”

Originally created by Belgian broadcaster VRT and production company De Chinezen, the format has become one of the key titles in Primitives’ international catalogue. Season two on FOX will introduce new games and higher-stakes challenges, continuing the mix of comedy, suspense and large-scale competition that has helped the format expand internationally.
Since launch, 99 to Beat has been adapted across 13 territories and was named K7 Media’s Rising Star format of 2025. The show is currently heading into its seventh season on VRT and has secured returning runs in markets including Germany on Sat.1, the Netherlands on Talpa Network/SBS6, Norway with Warner Bros. Discovery, Poland on TTV and Italy on RAI2.
A UK adaptation premiered on ITV in March 2025, while Brazil recently became the first Latin American territory to adapt the format in partnership with Boxfish. A French version is also scheduled to debut on M6 later this year.
