TV Asahi Strengthens Global Format Strategy Following Second Consecutive Triple Crown
TV Asahi is accelerating its global content strategy after securing its second consecutive Triple Crown in Japan’s 2025 television ratings, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the market. According to Video Research data (Kanto region), the broadcaster ranked No.1 in the Individual Total category across all key time slots—All Day, Golden Time (7:00–10:00 p.m.), and Prime Time (7:00–11:00 p.m.). In the Household category, the network achieved its fourth consecutive Triple Crown. The performance was driven by consistently strong results across multiple genres, including news, drama, and entertainment programming.

Building on this momentum, TV Asahi will expand its international strategy from fiscal year 2026 with the launch of a new Sunday night programming block titled Global Challenge, dedicated to developing formats with strong international adaptation potential.
The first title under this initiative is Season 3 of the dating reality format Love Time Travel, premiering this April. First introduced to buyers at MIPCOM 2025, the format attracted significant interest for its distinctive concept, built around the question: If you had met in a different era, would you still fall in love? The new season explores the contrast between analog and digital eras, while maintaining a flexible structure that allows for adaptation across different cultures and historical settings.

With Love Time Travel as a starting point, TV Asahi is also developing a broader slate of globally oriented unscripted formats, including physical competition shows and other entertainment concepts designed for international audiences. The broadcaster has a proven track record in format exports. Titles such as Ranking the Stars have been adapted in more than 11 countries and continue to perform strongly in markets like the Netherlands, while SONG vs DANCE, originally developed as a Japan–U.S. co-production, has expanded across Europe, with local versions such as LAUL vs TANTS delivering solid ratings.
These successes underline the global appeal of Japanese formats, as TV Asahi continues to collaborate with international partners to bring locally created concepts to worldwide audiences.
