Other titles include the BBC talk show The Claudia Winkleman Show, which ran for seven series of 50 minutes each, and The Heat, from Twofour, which launched on ITV2 on 24 February and is hosted by Olivia Attwood.
But the most intriguing seems to be Apocalypse, a social experiment with a ‘dark’ and dystopian flavour commissioned by Channel 4.
The British broadcaster will seek to answer the question of how people would deal with the aftermath of a cataclysmic disaster. According to the producers (The Garden, part of ITV Studios), our modern world exists on a knife edge, but if the worst happened, the fight for survival won’t be in jungles, forests or desert islands: it’ll be in the towns and cities we call home.
In this bold — and somewhat disturbing — social experiment, a group of ordinary people are sent to an abandoned town that bears all the hallmarks of having been ravaged by an apocalyptic event. They must survive for 28 days without running water, heating or electricity. They will need to scavenge for food and supplies, reusing and repurposing anything they find, but only if they can muster the necessary skills and resources to do so. Nothing here comes easily. In the face of scarce resources, will this unlikely group of strangers band together or fall apart?
It’s ‘just’ a social experiment, but you have to admit that it’s pretty scary, though also necessary.
