ZDF has joined SkyShowtime’s Original "The Trio" (TRION) as a co-production partner. Currently in filming, the SkyShowtime Original drama will premiere on ZDF and its affiliated channels across the DACH region, following a deal brokered by Night Train Media. Global distribution outside SkyShowtime and ZDF’s respective territories is being managed by NTM’s Eccho Rights.
Herbert Kloiber, CEO of Night Train Media and Eccho Rights, said: “Since announcing 'The Trio' (TRION), interest was immediate, with international partners captured by the unique story and demonstrably strong IP of Johanna Hedman’s novel. We’re delighted that ZDF has come on board as co-production partner and broadcaster – a fantastic endorsement of the series’ cross-border appeal.”
In September, SkyShowtime confirmed the start of production on the six-part series featuring August Wittgenstein (The Crown) as the ‘older’ Hugo and Felix Sandman (Sommartider) as August, alongside Seth Manteus (Cherries) and Rebecka Harper. Adapted from Johanna Hedman’s acclaimed bestselling novel, "The Trio" (TRION) explores love, desire, and connection – offering a meditation on life’s meaning and the inevitable passage of time.
"Trion", Hedman’s debut novel, was originally published in 2021 and quickly gained international attention in literary circles. The series, directed by Anders Hazelius and written by Veronica Zacco, is currently in production, with further details and casting news to be revealed soon.
