Alberto Carullo appointed as new General Director of Content for Mediaset España
Starting next January, Alberto Carullo will join Mediaset España as the new General Director of Content (director general de Contenidos), marking his return to a company where he previously served as Director of Antenna from 2002 to 2008. During his tenure, Telecinco achieved a historic milestone by dethroning the public broadcaster to take the lead in viewership for the first time in history.

Carullo will succeed Manuel Villanueva, who is stepping down after an illustrious career leading Mediaset España’s content strategy during the company's most successful period to date. Villanueva has been a pivotal figure in Spain’s media landscape, solidifying his reputation as one of the most respected leaders in the Spanish audiovisual industry.

This new appointment represents a strategic shift for Mediaset España, as the company, led by Alessandro Salem, expands its approach to both television and digital content planning and development.

With more than 30 years of experience in the audiovisual industry across Spain and Italy, Carullo has a strong track record in developing both scripted and unscripted content for leading operators and platforms, including Mediaset España, Atresmedia, RTVE, Netflix, and Prime Video. Born in Milan, Italy, Carullo holds a degree in Business from Milan’s Luigi Bocconi University and a Master’s in Corporate Communication.

He began his career in 1991 in the Marketing division of Mediaset Italy before joining Telecinco in 1994 as Marketing Director, where he supported the early growth of the channel. In 1996, he returned to Italy to manage marketing for Mediaset’s television channels, eventually heading Marketing and On-Air Promotion.

In 1999, Carullo returned to Spain as Director of Content and Marketing for BocaBoca, overseeing film and television production. By 2002, he had joined Gestevisión Telecinco, where he spent seven years as Director of Antenna, managing Fiction Production, Entertainment Production, Programming, Marketing, Artistic Direction, and Commercial Direction. His efforts led to the success of several iconic shows such as Motivos personales, Los Serrano, Aída, Sin tetas no hay paraíso, Yo soy Bea, Camera Café, Supervivientes, Operación Triunfo, and Caiga Quien Caiga. Under his leadership, Telecinco became the market leader, surpassing the public broadcaster for the first time.

In 2009, Carullo founded his own production company, Big Bang Media, where he served as CEO for 11 years, creating various entertainment and fiction formats. Most recently, he held the position of Vice President of Local Original Production for Iberia and Italy at Warner Bros. Discovery’s MAX platform, leading the development of local scripted and unscripted productions.
