Big Little Lies 2 is back on HBO (USA) and Sky Atlantic (Italy) The second season of the award-winning drama thriller series Big Little Lies (7x40-50’) debuted in the United States on HBO starting from June 9th and in Italy starting from June 18th on Sky Atlantic with two episodes. The second series inspired by the novel of Australian writer Liane Moriarty, is set in Monterey, a quiet central California seaside town. The story of the tragic event that closed the first season is the murder of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård). The protagonists of the all-female series, Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), were involved in Perry's death, violent husband of Celeste. All of them must undergo the consequences of that action, with all of the secrets and lies.
After the great success of the first season, Big Little Lies 2 is back to satisfy all of the fans. The renewal for a second series arrived after many uncertainties of both cast and network. The main difficulty is the need to find a credible way to bring the 5 protagonists and their stories back on the tv. The episodes of season 1 had in fact already exhausted the content of the novel of Moriarty and she became part of the team of authors and screenwriters, led by showrunner David E. Kelly.
New entry in the cast of the second season is Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep who plays Mary Louise Wright, Perry's mother. She comes to the city to find out the truth about her son's death.
Directed by Andrea Arnold who completes the all-female production. Creator and screenwriter of all the episodes of the first season was David E. Kelley, author of TV series such as' Ally McBeal ',' Lawyers in Los Angeles', 'Boston Legal', 'The Practice' and 'Mr. Mercedes'. Produced by Pacific Standard, Blossom Films and David E. Kelley Productions.
