Talpa: tune in to feel-good formats In the battle for the linear viewer—especially among younger people—family-friendly and feel-good formats continue to prove their value with their enduring appeal to audiences across the globe. These smooth and easy-going programs brighten our day and manage to gather the entire family in front of the TV.

Talpa’s family entertainment show A Year to Remember is a great example of the feel-good format’s relentless popularity. Aired first in 2017 in the Netherlands, it was most recently commissioned by TVP in Poland and will broadcast there this March. In Belgium, it is being recommissioned following a fantastic first season last fall on VTM and in Germany the first season will start later this year on Sat1. Following a fantastic first season in the Netherlands, the second season also received stellar ratings, scoring far above the slot average every episode. With the combination of touching nostalgia and a large dose of humor, A Year to Remember proved to be a feast of recognition and the perfect opportunity to bond with loved ones over highlights of the past.

Another Talpa feel-good format that has found its way into many hearts is The Wishing Tree. Since the Dutch launch in 2015, it has been fulfilling the wishes of those people that children think deserve it most. By now, the program has made its mark in more than ten countries. Recently, the show made its Asian debut in Vietnam and it has been recommissioned for a third season by the Brazilian broadcaster Globo. Latest commission for The Wishing Tree is in Portugal, where Shine Iberia will produce a first season for SIC in 2019.

In this new year, we look forward to bringing you many more successful feel-good and family-friendly TV moments. As the popularity of A Year to Remember and The Wishing Tree shows, there will always be room for a little bit of happiness on TV.
