The 4th edition of NEM ended with Masterchef UK The last, third day of New Europe Market, one of the biggest conferences focused on television industry, has seen some interesting panels about trends such as channels bundling and female leaders in this dynamic field. To spice it all up, Podravka has presented its new series „Croatia's Finest“ with MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker.

The day has started with always burning question – Is channel bundling on its way out? The panel connected two areas of ever growing television industry, content and platform providers. Dave Alpes from British Telekom during moderation of the panel focused mostly on issues and problems content and platform providers face in their own business, but also in co-operation with one another. Representatives of content providers, Michael Moriarty, president of AMCNI for Central Europe, DMC and UK and Bartosz Witak, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Viacom International Media in CEE and Israel, agreed that the biggest issue is how to stay relevant today. The main problem pointed out by Richard John Brešković, Director of Marketing for Hrvatski Telekom, Nikola Francetić, Head of Group Content, Media and Broadcasting for Telekom Austria Group and Simon Slonjšak, Head of Triple Play and Pay TV Operations for Telekom Slovenia, was the fragmentation of media and that they have big challenges in preparing themselves how to make affiliates in Amazon, Google and the rest of the big players out there.

NEM guests had the chance to hear first-hand about a new project - a travel log called „Croatia's Finest“, sponsored by Podravka. Dhruv Baker, British MasterChef winner, explained the path to the taping of this soon-to-be-seen series that consists of 20 episodes. „Croatia's Finest“ will show the culinary and tourist side of Croatia, pointing out the best of Croatia's nature in places like Zagreb, Brač, Virovitica and other beautiful places. After the presentation, Dhruv Baker and Chef Mihael Tokić cooked for the NEM guests some of their specialties.

Embracing the Digital talked about the possibilities in brave new digital world. The panelists, made up of finest regional leaders of TV industry, agreed that the focus should be put on refinancing and creating domestic products, especially drama series. Gabriella Vidus, CEO of RTL Hungary, mentioned that Netflix is totally irrelevant in Belgium, comparing to other countries in Europe. Henning Tewes, CEO of RTL Croatia, agreed with Vidus, and mentioned that is mainly because of dubbing and subtitling policy in countries. Unlike Croatia, which is used to subtitling policy, Hungary has embraced content dubbing. Pete Smith of Antenna International confirmed the importance of local content and suggested that there should be solution to the problems of distributing this content to other countries. Panelists agreed that YouTube is a big player, but the most worrying problem comes from piracy of the content which is harmful to everyone in the industry.

The last panel of this year's NEM was dedicated to female leaders of media industry, whose guest was Sanja Božić-Ljubičić, the founder of New Europe Market, as well as Pickbox, Mediatranslations, and NEM's organizer Mediavision. Even though she usually isn't too eager to attend panel discussions, she was glad to take part in the last panel of the year, and the most important panel she insisted of to be held. Božić-Ljubičić shared her experience of being involved in raising a family and working on different projects. As a mother of two, she said that the role of mother and boss in television industry is tiresome, but pleasing.

„I don't like power, to be honest. We as women in this industry struggle to be good business women, to be good people, to be successful. I must admit, this panel is a bit discriminating because it points out only women, but the world should get to know us as much as men, treating everybody equally“, said Božić-Ljubičić.

Another speaker at the panel was Manja Grčić, Director of Antenna International for Serbia and Montenegro. As a mother of two, she also said that it is hard sometimes to harmonize different roles in her life. For her, powerful is something that describes someone who is accomplishing great things. They agreed that women should fight for their rights and should be treated equally.

NEM 2016 was the biggest market so far, considering panel guest and business opportunities. This was proven with the announcement about VICE's expansion, as well as the released information about a new partnership Ginx has finalized with Sky and ITV involving the launch of the first UK 24-hour eSport Channel. With three great parties organized by FOX Networks Group, Viasat World and VICE, guests were able to network with people from the global television industry, exchange newest information and do business together.
