France’s M6 Group has picked up ATRESplayer Premium’s Spanish TV cult drama series Upa Next. The project is a revival of the popular series Un Paso Adelante, which aired between 2002 and 2005 on Antena 3 for 6 seasons and was sold into more 60 countries.
M6’s Salto streaming platform premiered the first episode on December 25 in prime time slot, an hour after it is broadcast on ATRESplayer Premium in Spain. The full 8-episodes season will arrive before the summer, said Atresmedia TV.
The show follows the professors and students at a prestigious arts school in Madrid as they learn that the road to fame is not easy. Beatriz Luengo, Miguel Ángel Muñoz and Mónica Cruz, who all starred in the original version of the show, will reprise their roles in Upa Next. New cast members include Quique González, Mónica Mara, Marc Betriu, Claudia Lachispa and Almudena Salort.
Upa Next is produced by Atresmedia Televisión in collaboration with The Mediapro Studio-owned Globomedia.
