Dori Media Group's ‘The Selfie Challenge’ MENA Renewed for a Second Season by Abu Dhabi Media

Dori Media Group (DMG) has signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates’ Abu Dhabi Media (ADM), the UAE’s leading public service broadcaster and media company, for a second season of the Arabic version of the unscripted Studio Glam-created format, ‘The Selfie Challenge’.

Production is underway for the second season, with 15 new episodes slated to premiere in May 2022. The hugely popular show will return to its home timeslot of Wednesdays at 10pm UAE/9pm KSA on Abu Dhabi TV and will also be available on the ADtv app.

The Selfie Challenge’ (تحدي السيلفي or ‘Tahadi Al-Selfie’) is an innovative contemporary, dynamic reality game show filmed around the world that draws inspiration from the cross-culture selfie phenomenon through a competition. Two groups of three friends must quickly replicate selfies they receive. The competition has five rounds which become progressively tougher, more complex and daring. Success in this challenge depends on improvisation skills and creativity, and daring street selfies will often involve complete strangers. The Arabic version of ‘The Selfie Challenge’ is produced by Highways Arabia.

Season 1 was a huge success, with data from ADM indicating a high cumulative TRP (Television Ratings Point) of 18.5% in UAE and 10.1% in KSA among the female demographic. The series was also a huge hit on social media, with one video of a contestant attempting a Maqluba bowl flipping challenge going viral and achieveing an impressive 762,000 views on Facebook.

Featuring more than 75 challenges across 150 landmarks and places in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, the first season of ‘The Selfie Challenge’ boasted a roster of powerhouse social media influencers, including host Nouraldin Al-Yousuf, UAE’s Faris Al-Khalidi and KSA’s Rayan Al-Ahmari and Walid Al-Zahran.

Season 2 will follow the same structure as Season 1, pitting Team UAE against Team KSA, but with Walid Al-Zahran replacing Rayan Al-Ahmari as the leader of Team KSA.
