The success of French drama series in terms of sales and international recognition (for example, Call My Agent!, which was recently awarded the International Emmy® Award for Best Comedy) demonstrates the potential of these series internationally.
That appeal is growing, as shown by the latest study conducted by the French National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC - Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée) and Unifrance. Exports of French TV programmes hit an all-time high in 2020 despite the health crisis, with a financial flow of €354.8 million, the highest in 25 years. As the second-biggest export genre, French TV drama saw significant growth in the last ten years, with sales at 135%, proof of increasing production quality and reach. Within this particularly positive context, Unifrance will be making a significant contribution to Series Mania, with an increased presence at the Series Mania Forum and the organisation of the seventh edition of COMING NEXT from FRANCE. Taking the form of pitching sessions, this provides an opportunity to present five previously unseen French series currently being finalised to a panel of foreign buyers.
It is a chance for five pairs of distribution and production companies to promote their programmes on the international market. The five series to be presented in 2022 are:
