Secuoya Studios and Telemundo Streaming Studios join forces to create fiction content

Secuoya Studios and Telemundo Streaming Studios have struck a deal to co-develop, co-produce and co-finance multiple fiction projects through to 2023. The alliance, announced by Juan Ponce, SVP and General Manager of the American company, and James Costos, president of Secuoya Studios, during the first Iberseries Platino Industria, embraces a concept of collaborative work by creative professionals at both companies to create a portfolio of original Spanish-language audiovisual content. The core goal of the two-year renewable partnership deal is to lend visibility to original Spanish and Latin American stories.

“We are delighted with this unprecedented alliance in the Spanish-speaking audiovisual world. This deal is another step forward in creating stories alongside strong partners with a big presence in the Latin American and U.S. markets such as Telemundo Streaming Universal. We hope this will be the first of many future joint efforts in terms of content creation and production and in other areas, such as structuring financial agreements, services, back-office, the rental of stages that comply with the highest standards of the international markets, where Secuoya Studios has a proven track record of professional expertise,” said James Costos.

“We are proud to be able to work with Secuoya Studios to develop top-level content for our Streaming clients. We found in Secuoya the same mission and commitment to develop and produce stories that are able to connect deeply and in a novel way with a global audience”, stated Juan Ponce.

An assessment committee of U.S. and Spanish creative executives will look at candidate projects from a global perspective. Selected properties will move on to concept development and production of a pilot. After picking the best stories and formats the Spanish content studio and the American streaming platform will start production. NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises will provide exclusive international distribution and start talks with industry players to license the series in the United States and Spain, on networks, streaming platforms and other content shopfronts.

This partnership deal chalks up one of the goals Secuoya Studios has pursued from the outset. The content production firm led by James Costos seeks to build strategic relationships with leading international industry partners to create, develop, co-produce and distribute entertainment, fiction and film formats and widen the scope of existing agreements with operators, platforms and television networks. A few months on, this commitment has taken shape as a joint development agreement with Telemundo Streaming Studios. Further partners are expected to sign up to the venture later on.
