Married at First Sight franchise to see first ever live TV wedding
Redseven Entertainment, the German production division of Red Arrow Studios, is to make history in November with the first ever live wedding for the hit Married at First Sight franchise.

Now in 29 countries, Married at First Sight is the world’s biggest relationship show, with multiple seasons and spin-offs in countries including the US (Red Arrow’s Kinetic Content for Lifetime) and the UK (Red Arrow’s CPL Productions for Channel 4).

Germany is the first country to ever broadcast a live wedding for the series, meaning that two strangers looking for love will meet each other for the first time at their wedding ceremony, live on air on SAT.1.

The live wedding will be the centrepiece of an event special to kick off Season 7 of Married at First Sight Germany (Hochzeit auf den ersten Blick), airing November 4, 2020 at 8:15 pm on SAT.1.

Produced by Redseven Entertainment, the new season will follow 12 singles across eight episodes. Relationship experts including psychoanalyst Dr. Sandra Köhldorfer, couple and sex therapist Beate Quinn and certified psychologist Markus Ernst will match the couples, and support them throughout the series – until they face the final decision of whether to stay together, or divorce.

Married at First Sight Season 6 scored high ratings for SAT.1, with a 15.2% market share among 14- to 49-year-old viewers.

Jobst Benthues, CEO of Redseven Entertainment, said: “Live TV is always exciting, but filming two strangers who are meeting and then getting married live on air takes the excitement to a whole new level! I am delighted that we are producing this live special for SAT.1 and hope it becomes a must-see event in Germany.

Redseven Entertainment is one of the leading unscripted production houses in Germany, producing a range of acclaimed, multi-season shows including Germany’s Next Top Model for ProSieben, The Taste and Married at First Sight for SAT.1, Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds for VOX, and A League of Their Own for Sky Germany. The company announced in August that it has scored its first commission for Amazon Prime Video Germany – new comedy series Binge Reloaded.

Married at First Sight is a format created by Red Arrow’s Snowman Productions, and is distributed by Red Arrow Studios International. The show is in production in over 29 countries including the US, UK, Australia and Denmark.

In August, Lifetime in the US announced that the Kinetic Content-produced series would be recommissioned for a six further seasons, plus get a major new spin-off. Season 11 of the show is currently out-performing on the network.

In the UK, the new fifth season of the show is set to premiere on Channel 4 on October 6, 2020. This season will see the singles paired by two of the world’s best matchmakers: Oprah’s ‘Love Doctor’ Paul C. Brunson who is known as the ‘real-life Hitch’ as well as a dating agent on E4’s Celebs Go Dating, and leading UK matchmaker Genevieve Gresset. They’ll also be assisted in their love matching by psychologist, Dr Angela Smith. The new series sees the couples beginning their new lives as newlyweds just as lockdown hit, putting extra pressure on their fledgling romances.

During the Summer, both Lifetime and Channel 4 picked up rights to the hit Australian version of the show from Red Arrow Studios International, extending the brand significantly in both territories.
