Independent TV production company Pernel Media today announces that French public broadcaster France 5, part of the France Télévisions Group, has commissioned The Trojan War: Myth and Reality, an investigation-led documentary special that shines a new light on one of the most famous conflicts in Greek mythology.

Belgian broadcaster RTBF, French channel Histoire TV and an undisclosed US broadcaster have also pre-bought the two-hour special.

Pernel Media has secured exclusive access to two major archaeological sites - the ancient city of Hissarlik in Turkey, believed by many to be the location of ancient Troy, and the recently discovered Tenea in Greece - that will help uncover whether there was any historical truth behind the epic Trojan War myth.

With additional access to the excavation sites’ research leaders, this ground-breaking documentary seeks to find the answers to the numerous questions surrounding the Trojan War - a conflict waged against the city of Troy by the Achaeans and made famous by Homer’s epic poem The Iliad.

The Trojan War: Myth and Reality, directed by Laurent Portes, will air on France 5’s spectacular science strand, Science Grand Format. Anne Gouraud, Xavier Grimault and Coraline Roch commissioned the show for France 5. Fabrice Frank and Samuel Kissous are Executive Producers for Pernel Media.
