StudioCanal promotes TV, digital & film execs in strategic global content move
Today StudioCanal announces significant promotions within the business, further underlining its position as Europe's leader in television and film production, distribution and worldwide sales.

Paris-based Anne Cherel, a long serving member of StudioCanal’s sales management team, is promoted from Head of International Sales (current movies) to EVP Global Sales & Distribution. Cherel will oversee the International Sales of TV Series and Feature Films reporting to CEO Anna Marsh.

It is so gratifying to see Anne lead this vital area of the business. Our highly sought-after content is in the best possible hands.”

Having joined the studio in 2016, London-based Beatriz Campos is promoted from Head of International Sales (TV) to SVP Global Sales & Production Financing. Campos will implement and deploy a global commercialstrategy for the international financing and distribution of StudioCanal TV productions and third-party opportunities.

Another strategic move in Paris will see Chloé Marquet promoted from SVP International Sales to Head of International Film Sales.

Beatriz Campos, Chloé Marquet and Aska Yamaguchi – who was appointed Head of International Digital Salesin 2017 – will report into Anne Cherel who comments:“I am thrilled to be working on such a prestigious Feature Film and Television slate and, most of all, to do so with my highly respected and talented dream team in Beatriz, Chloe & Aska. Our presence in Paris and London is invaluable together with our global reach, and we very much look forward to driving our content forward supplying our partners with first class material.”

Brand new TV series for StudioCanal in 2020 include Shadowplay, created and written by award-winning Måns Mårlind (The Bridge, Midnight Sun), produced by Tandem Productions and Bron Studios in coproduction with ZDF, boasting a stellar cast including Taylor Kitsch (True Detective), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Nina Hoss (A Most Wanted Man), Mala Emde (Brecht), Sebastian Koch (Homeland), Tuppence Middleton (Sense8) and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus). Shadowplay is a gritty thriller set in a post-war divided Berlin shedding light on an unknown and violent period in time.

Darkly comic family drama Finding Alice, produced by RED Production, a StudioCanal Company, stars Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, The Durrels), Nigel Havers (Coronation Street, Chariots of Fire) and Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous). The series focuses upon Alice’s honest, raw, blackly comic journey of grief, love and life.

All The Way Up – aka Validé, a Canal+ Creation Originale created and directed by Franck Gastambide (Taxi 5), the first French series to dive into the world of rap.

Paris Police 1990 is created by Fabien Nury (The Death of Stalin) and co-produced by Emmanuel Daucé (Vernon Subutex, The Line) and Fabien Nury for Tetra Media Fiction and AFPI. This new Canal+ Creation Originale offers an authentic portrayal of the (not so) Belle Epoque through a gripping investigation around the discovery of a body found in a suitcase.

French-Israeli co-production Possession is created by Shachar Magen (Sirens) written in collaborationwith Valérie Zenatti (A Bottlein The Gaza Sea), directedby BAFTA-nominated Thomas Vincent (Bodyguard). The series, created by leading production company Haut et Court TV (The Returned, The Last Panthers), is produced by Caroline Benjo, Barbara Letellier, Simon Arnal and Carole Scotta and co-produced by Eilon Ratzkovsky (Sirens), Osnat Nishri and Keren Misgav Ristvedt from Quiddity, for Canal+ Creation Originale and Yes TV. Set against the backdrop of the wild Negev desert, this powerful psychological thriller features an outstanding international cast, including Nadia Tereszkiewicz (Only The Animals), Reda Kateb (Zero Dark Thirty, Close Enemies, Django), Noa Koler (Our Boys) and Tchéky Karyo (The Missing).

Award winning hits Spiral, Baron Noir, The Lawyer also return with new seasons.

Currently in post-production and due for Theatrical release in 2021 are Feature Films Gunpowder Milkshake from Director Navot Papushado (Big Bad Wolves) starring Karen Gillan (Avengers: Endgame, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Guardians of the Galaxy, Gumanji: The Next Level), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, 300), 9-1-1 and Black Panther star Angela Basset, Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians, Star Trek: Discovery), Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House, Jett, Manhunt: Unabomber) and Paul Giamatti (Billions, Straight Outta Compton, Sideways).StudioCanal and The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman produce. Gunpowder Milkshake is a female driven high-concept assassin film that has a rich mythology and spans multiplegenerations.

Dual-narrative love story The Last Letter From Your Lover from Director Augustine Frizzell (Euphoria, Never Goin' Back) starring Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, Rogue One, On The Basis of Sex), Shailene Woodley (The Fault in our Stars, Adrift, Big Little Lies), Callum Turner (War & Peace, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, The Capture), Nabhaan Rizwan (Informer, 1917) and Joe Alwyn (The Favourite, Boy Erased, Mary Queen of Scots) produced with Academy-Award winning Blueprint Pictures based on the best-selling novel by JoJo Moyes.

Louis Wain Directed by BAFTA nominated Will Sharpe (Channel 4’s critically acclaimed Flowers). Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Patrick Melrose, Avengers: Endgame) stars as British artist Louis Wain in the extraordinary true story of a brilliant man inspired by both his love of the world and the love of his life Emily played by Claire Foy (The Crown, Firstman).StudioCanal, Sunnymarch, Shoebox Films & FILM4 produce.

The origin story of Father Christmas is re-imagined in Gil Kenan’s live action A Boy Called Christmas based on the best-selling book by Matt Haig boasting an all-star cast including Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey, Harry Potter), Jim Broadbent (Paddington 1 & 2, Game of Thrones), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Hunger Games), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Paddington 1 & 2), Michiel Huisman (The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Haunting of Hill House) and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters). StudioCanal is currently handling worldwide sales for Tomas Alfredson’s recently announced The Jonsson Gang at the TIFF market which reunites the studio with Alfredson following Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
