BBC Studios Showcase becomes immersive virtual event in 2021
BBC Studios has announced its first ever, virtual Showcase, a three-day programme of events running from 22-24 February 2021.

The all-new, fully immersive experience will also be the 45th BBC Studios Showcase, an annual event that brings together international buyers from around the world to experience, acquire and partner on premium content from BBC Studios and UK independent producers.

Paul Dempsey, President, Global Distribution, BBC Studios, said “It’s simply not fair to ask our clients and partners to travel during these uncertain times so we are going to pull out all the stops to give them the full Showcase experience from the comfort of their home locations. BBC Studios Showcase is known for the scale of its ambition and the skill of its execution so you can imagine the fun we’re going to have reimagining this market as a virtual event. You will not want to miss it.

Innovative, cutting-edge technology will bring customers closer to scripted, unscripted and formats content than ever before. The exclusive, invitation-only event will offer buyers the chance to meet and hear from some of the world’s top programme makers and key commissioners about their very latest projects. Production panels will offer unique insights into the making of the newest shows, there will be the chance to see the very latest footage, straight from the cutting room as well as full-length screenings and new promos. BBC Studios will also offer customers extensive access to the content pipeline, industry-leading insight into the latest trends and audience behaviour from market experts and a bespoke co-production forum.

Among the new shows premiering at BBC Studios Showcase is This is Going to Hurt, Adam Kay’s own adaptation of his blisteringly funny and frequently heart-breaking international, international best-selling memoir of the same name starring Ben Whishaw (A Very English Scandal, Skyfall, London Spy). This is Going to Hurt is produced by global content company Sister (Girl/Haji, Chernobyl, Gangs of London) in association with Terrible Productions.

Also debuting at Showcase is The Green Planet from BBC Studios Natural History Unit. The first immersive portrayal of an unseen, inter-connected world, full of remarkable new behaviour, emotional stories and surprising heroes, this new natural history landmark has been described as Planet Earth from the perspective of plants.
