Tenerife Strengthens Its Position as an International VFX Hub
Tenerife is strengthening its position as an international hub for visual effects (VFX) and post-production, supported by technological innovation, specialised talent and a growing network of audiovisual companies.

The transformation was at the centre of the panel VFX en Canarias: Talento, Industria e Internacionalización”, held during the 22nd edition of CIIF Market (Santa Cruz, October 26-30, 2026). The discussion featured Ignacio Caicoya, Founder and CEO of Flaming Frames; Rubén Román, Executive Director of 22 Dogs; Jonathan Monroig, CEO of Blurr Rojo; and Ricardo Martínez, Director of the Tenerife Film Commission. The session was moderated by Olga Martín Pascual, Director of Parque Científico y Tecnológico de Tenerife.

One of the main messages was that VFX is no longer simply a post-production activity, but an essential part of the entire audiovisual production chain, from script development and pre-production to filming and final delivery. Involving VFX specialists at an early stage allows producers to optimise budgets, improve workflows and achieve more ambitious creative results.

Artificial intelligence emerged as another key topic, with speakers highlighting its potential to accelerate production processes and improve efficiency. However, AI remains an evolving technology requiring continuous experimentation, investment and creative supervision. Rather than replacing traditional VFX expertise, it is becoming an additional tool for studios adapting to new industry demands.

The panel also highlighted Tenerife's growing international ecosystem, where local companies are expanding their capabilities through strategic partnerships and collaborations with established production centres in mainland Spain.

This expansion reflects the broader growth of the Canary Islands' audiovisual industry, which generated €440 million in direct economic impact in 2025, including advertising productions, with 180 registered projects, 26% of them international.
Supported by competitive tax incentives, including the Canary Islands Special Zone's 4% corporate tax rate for qualifying companies, the region is increasingly attracting international investment in animation, VFX and digital production.
