Stopello will also deliver a keynote at Content Americas, discussing his career, the transformation of Spanish-language scripted television and the challenges and opportunities facing writers and creators in an evolving audiovisual landscape.
With a career spanning several decades, Stopello has played a significant role in shaping Latin American drama, combining his experience as a screenwriter, creator and showrunner with senior executive positions at Telemundo and Netflix.During his 17 years at Telemundo, where he became VP of Development, Stopello oversaw more than 50 productions and contributed to the rise of the superseries model through successful franchises including La reina del sur, El señor de los cielos and Señora Acero. He wrote the first two seasons of La reina del sur and created Señora Acero, which ran for five seasons. His development credits also include El clon, Doña Bárbara, Pasión de gavilanes, La patrona, ¿Dónde está Elisa? and El cuerpo del deseo. His leadership helped strengthen Telemundo’s scripted strategy, contributing to the network surpassing Univision in primetime ratings for the first time.
From 2018 to 2024, Stopello served as VP of Series for Latin America at Netflix, where he led the platform’s melodrama strategy and supervised productions across Mexico, Colombia and Brazil, while collaborating with creative teams in other international markets. His portfolio included successful Netflix titles such as Oscuro deseo, ¿Quién mató a Sara?, Pálpito, Perfil falso, Accidente, Lady Voyeur, Madre de alquiler and El secreto del río. He continued providing creative guidance on projects through early 2026.
His latest project as creator and showrunner, El otro padre, premiered in July 2026 and entered Netflix’s Top 10 in 54 countries, also reaching the top position in the global ranking of non-English-language series.
Commenting on the recognition, Stopello said: “Receiving the Rose d’Or Latinos Lifetime Achievement Award brings me immense joy. No one gets this far alone, so I would like to share this recognition with all the professionals who have accompanied me along the way and, above all, with the audiences who have embraced our stories as their own.”
Pierluigi Gazzolo, chairman of the Rose d’Or Latinos 2027 jury, described Stopello as a key figure in the evolution of Latin American drama, highlighting his ability to reinvent genres, introduce new storytelling approaches and connect with audiences across the region.
Stopello joins previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipients including Cris Morena, Eugenio Derbez and Juan José Campanella.
The Rose d’Or Latinos 2027 will recognise outstanding Spanish- and Portuguese-language productions across 13 categories. The awards ceremony will be held during Content Americas, scheduled for January 18–21, 2027, in Miami.
