Woodcut Media and Sphere Abacus are heading to MIPCOM with Horror at the Hotel, a new true crime documentary series currently in production. Produced by Woodcut Media and distributed worldwide by Sphere Abacus, the eight-part series will be presented at the market following presales to 5 (UK & Ireland), Bell Media for Crave in Canada, and Radial Entertainment in the US.
Horror at the Hotel (8x60’) explores homicide cases that took place within the distinctive environment of hotels, where guests can arrive as strangers and killers can remain hidden in plain sight.
Each episode examines a different case from the US or UK, bringing together testimony from police officers, victims’ families and people closely involved in the investigations. The series reconstructs the events surrounding each crime, explores their impact and follows the investigations that ultimately led to the killers being caught.
Tracey Moore serves as Series Producer for Woodcut Media, with Matt Blyth and Angie Cox as Executive Producers. Moore commented: “Associating hotels with murder scenes is the last thing on your mind as they are usually considered places of sanctuary. But this is not always the case as Horror at the Hotel reveals. The series offers an enlightening insight from the law enforcement officers faced with the herculean task of solving a homicide alongside emotional testimony from families left to pick up the pieces after their lives have been shattered by these tragedies.”
Jonathan Ford, Managing Director, Sphere Abacus said: “We’re delighted to be working with Woodcut in representing this fascinating true crime series and are pleased to see that it’s already resonating with international broadcasters and platforms.”
