The sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria was officially inaugurated today, 28 September, at Madrid’s Teatros del Canal, marking the opening of what is shaping up to be the event’s biggest and most international edition to date.
While the official opening ceremony took place on Monday evening, the market and its full programme of conferences, screenings, pitching sessions, meetings and industry activities will get underway tomorrow morning at Matadero Madrid, running from 29 September to 2 October.
This year’s edition is already showing significant growth in terms of attendance and international participation. According to figures released by the Madrid City Council, 2,800 audiovisual professionals have been accredited, more than double the number attending the first edition, with 47% coming from international markets. More than 1,500 companies are registered and around 200 international buyers are expected to attend.
The geographical reach of the event is also expanding well beyond its traditional Spanish-, Portuguese- and Latin American base, with growing participation from territories including Turkey, China, India and South Korea. The trend reinforces Iberseries & Platino Industria’s evolution from an Ibero-American meeting point into an increasingly international audiovisual marketplace.
Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida was among the institutional representatives speaking at the opening ceremony, alongside Madrid’s Delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sport Marta Rivera de la Cruz and Tourism Councillor Almudena Maíllo. During his address, Almeida highlighted Madrid’s role as a leading hub for the Ibero-American audiovisual industry and underlined the importance of the event in strengthening links between European and Latin American producers, broadcasters, platforms and creatives.
The sixth edition brings together production companies, streaming platforms, broadcasters, distributors, financiers, buyers and creators from Europe, Latin America and a growing number of international territories. The programme includes executives and representatives from companies such as Amazon MGM Studios, Mediawan, Google EMEA, Beta Film, Movistar Plus+, Secuoya Studios, RTVE and Wild Sheep Content, among others.
Key areas of discussion this year include new production and financing models, international co-production, artificial intelligence, global expansion strategies and the search for new creative voices and IP.
