The Portugal Film Commission returned to Toronto, Canada, to take part in TIFF: The Market, held as part of the Toronto International Film Festival from 10 to 16 September 2026. This return provided an opportunity to further promote Portugal as a filming destination among international industry professionals.

Throughout the market, the Portugal Film Commission was part of the AFCI Destination Lounge, an initiative by the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) dedicated to networking and promoting filming destinations to the industry. During the event, Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission, met with international industry professionals interested in learning more about the opportunities Portugal has to offer.

On 11 September, the AFCI Destination Lounge hosted a session dedicated exclusively to Portugal. This special presentation showcased the conditions the country offers international productions, with a particular focus on SCRI.PT - Portugal’s Audiovisual and Film Industry Funding Programme, namely its new incentives and the opportunities they offer international projects.

On the same day, Ana Marques took part in the session “Filming History: Production Opportunities in Austria & Portugal”, alongside Juliane Buchroithner, Film Commissioner at Film in Austria, and Marijana Stoisits, CEO/Managing Director of the Vienna Film Commission. Moderated by Claire Brooks, Executive Director of AFCI, the discussion explored the opportunities Portugal and Austria offer international productions seeking historical locations.

The Portuguese presence also extended to the programme of the Toronto International Film Festival, with three films involving Portuguese participation: Love of Your Life, by Rachel Morrison, in Special Presentations; The Difficult Bride, by Rubaiyat Hossain, in Centrepiece; and Terminal, by Alexandre Siqueira, in the Short Cuts programme, which received an Honourable Mention from the jury for the Best Animated Short Film award.
