The 2026 Official Selection includes 24 live-action feature films, 10 animated feature films, 11 feature documentaries, two docuseries, two TV one-offs and 18 scripted series. The projects will be presented during dedicated pitching sessions and co-production meetings in Rome.
Alongside the main selection, MIA is introducing several new initiatives aimed at widening its support for projects at different stages of development and financing.
Among them is Doc Connect, a new programme featuring seven documentary projects, while animated series will also be included within the market’s new Gap Financing initiative. The first animated series selected for the programme are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The introduction of Gap Financing reflects MIA’s broader effort to strengthen its role beyond project discovery and networking, offering producers additional opportunities to connect with potential partners and secure the resources needed to move projects towards production.
This approach will also be supported through the MIA Development Award, which will be presented during the closing ceremony and will provide cash prizes to selected projects taking part in the Co-Production & Gap Financing Market.
The award is designed to offer direct support to projects as they move from development towards financing and production, reinforcing MIA’s position as both an international meeting point and a business platform for the audiovisual industry.
Other prizes returning in 2026 include the Women in Film and Television Italia – WIFTMI Award, recognising a project with particular potential in the fields of gender equality and inclusion, and the Screen International Award, which will go to a title selected for the C EU Soon showcase.
The market is promoted by ANICA, the Italian Association of Film, Audiovisual and Digital Industries, chaired by Alessandro Usai, and APA, the Italian Audiovisual Producers Association, chaired by Chiara Sbarigia. MIA is directed by Gaia Tridente.
MIA 2026 is supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, ICE – the Italian Trade Agency, Creative Europe MEDIA and the Italian Ministry of Culture, with additional support from the Rome Lazio Film Commission Foundation and the Lazio Region.
The 2026 edition is also being held in collaboration with Roma Capitale’s Department for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion and under the patronage of Eurimages.
Further details on the selected projects, animated series and international guests are expected to be announced ahead of the market’s opening in Rome on October 19.
