MIPCOM CANNES has announced a special world premiere screening of Queen Silvia, the drama inspired by the real-life love story of Sweden’s Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf. The screening will take place on Tuesday, 13 October at 6pm in the Grand Auditorium, followed by a Q&A featuring lead actors Alicia von Rittberg and Edvin Endre, showrunner Carsten Kelber, director Miguel Alexandre, and Beta Film’s Justus Riesenkampff.

Set across Munich, Stockholm and the French Riviera, the six-part, one-hour drama follows German-Brazilian interpreter Silvia Sommerlath (Alicia von Rittberg) and Sweden’s young Crown Prince Carl Gustaf (Edvin Endre) from their first meeting to their engagement four years later. Their paths cross during the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where an unexpected romance develops into a love story shaped by public scrutiny, royal tradition and the expectations of the Swedish monarchy.

Queen Silvia is produced by Pyjama Pictures and Unlimited Stories for Prime Video DACH and Nordics, in partnership with German free-to-air broadcaster SAT.1. Beta Film holds the international distribution rights.

The series stars Alicia von Rittberg (Charité, Becoming Elizabeth, Call My Agent! Berlin, Miss Sophie) as Silvia and Edvin Endre (Eddie the Eagle, Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace, Vikings, The Playlist) as Carl Gustaf.
The six-hour drama is directed by Miguel Alexandre (Sisi, Gran Paradiso, Shades of Happiness), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Lisa Hofer (Black Island), with the pair serving as head writers alongside Pauline Wolff (Stockholm Requiem, VAKA). Carsten Kelber serves as showrunner.
Executive producers are Tina Ermuth, Frank Buchs, Carsten Kelber, Emil Wiklund, Manya Lutz-Moneim and Justus Riesenkampff, while Pia Lüke, Tim Bahalou and Frida Wallman are producers. Jallo Faber serves as director of photography. The series is supported by the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB) and FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF).

Queen Silvia will launch on Prime Video in DACH and the Nordics in 2027 as part of the Prime membership offering. Its German free-TV premiere will follow four weeks later on SAT.1.
