September also marks the official start of the new season for Italian fiction, with broadcasters rolling out a mix of brand-new productions, returning series and titles already seen on streaming platforms and now moving into a second window on free-to-air television.

Interestingly, the season opens on September 1 with two high-profile examples of this strategy. Rai 1 will air La legge di Lidia Poët, the successful Italian Netflix series starring Matilda De Angelis, while Canale 5 will counter-programme with Hotel Costiera, the Lux Vide production starring Jesse Williams, which originally premiered on Prime Video. Alongside these second-window acquisitions, September will bring several new Italian productions across Rai, Mediaset and streaming platforms, officially launching the 2026/27 fiction season.

Here are the main Italian fiction premieres and returns scheduled for September.
Rai 1 opens September with La legge di Lidia Poët, starring Matilda De Angelis, bringing the Netflix series to Italian free-to-air television.
Inspired by the true story of Italy's first female lawyer, the period crime drama follows Lidia Poët as she challenges the restrictions imposed on women in late 19th-century Italy while becoming involved in a series of criminal investigations. The first season consists of six episodes and will air on Rai 1 across three prime-time evenings, on September 1, 8 and 9. Produced by Groenlandia, the series was created by Guido Iuculano and Davide Orsini.

On the same evening, Canale 5 launches Hotel Costiera, another Italian production moving from streaming to free-to-air television.
The series originally premiered on Prime Video in 2025 and is produced by Lux Vide, a Fremantle company, in association with Amazon MGM Studios.
Jesse Williams stars as Daniel De Luca, a former US Marine of Italian origin who returns to Italy and becomes a problem solver at an exclusive luxury hotel in Positano. While dealing with the unusual requests of the hotel's wealthy guests, Daniel also investigates the disappearance of the owner's daughter.
The cast includes Maria Chiara Giannetta, Pierpaolo Spollon, Antonio Gerardi and Tommaso Ragno.

 September 2 – Erica – Una detective per caso – Canale 5
Mediaset's first major new fiction of the season arrives the following evening. Erica – Una detective per caso premieres Wednesday, September 2 in prime time on Canale 5. Vanessa Incontrada stars as Erica, a successful crime novelist suffering from writer's block who returns to her hometown of Piombino and unexpectedly becomes involved in a real murder investigation. Francesco Scianna co-stars as Leonardo, the police officer leading the case. The series is a co-production between RTI and 7Verticale, produced by 7Verticale and directed by Ciro D'Emilio.

Rai 1's long-running daily drama Il Paradiso delle Signore returns on Monday, September 7 with its eleventh season. The series will once again occupy its weekday afternoon slot, continuing the stories surrounding the Milan department store and its characters.

September 20 – Giovannino Guareschi – Rai 1. Rai 1 will also dedicate a TV movie to Giovannino Guareschi, the Italian writer and journalist best known internationally as the creator of Don Camillo and Peppone. The title is currently scheduled for Sunday, September 20, adding a biographical production to Rai's September fiction slate.

Netflix will launch the new Italian series Minerva – La Scuola on September 22. The story is set inside the fictional Minerva military high school and follows a group of teenagers facing the discipline, ambitions, friendships and conflicts that come with life inside the institution.
The series represents one of Netflix's new Italian productions for the autumn season and was previewed at the Giffoni Film Festival ahead of its September launch.

Rai 1 closes the month with another new fiction title, Una Finestra Vistalago, scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, September 29.
Inspired by the literary world of Italian writer Andrea Vitali, the period mystery is directed by Marco Pontecorvo and stars Antonio Folletto and Giulia D'Aloia.
Set in the 1930s, the story follows a young Carabinieri marshal who moves with his wife to a small northern Italian town, where he discovers that the apparently peaceful community hides secrets, rivalries and mysteries.
The cast also includes Domenico Centamore, Claudia Potenza, Antonio Catania and Dario Vergassola.
