BBC comedy hit Ann Droid is returning for a second series after its debut season attracted 7.6 million viewers within 28 days, making it the BBC’s second biggest new scripted launch of the year to date, behind Small Prophets. The six-part comedy, produced by Boffola Pictures and Witchcraft Industries, was created by BAFTA and Emmy-nominated actor and writer Diane Morgan (Mandy, Cunk) and co-written by Morgan and Sarah Kendall (Frayed, The Other One). Morgan also stars alongside Sue Johnston (True Love, The Royle Family) and Paul Ready (Motherland).

Ann Droid premiered in July 2026 on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, becoming the biggest launch of a new BBC series across all genres among 16–34-year-olds since The Celebrity Traitors. The series has performed particularly strongly on BBC iPlayer, with its first episode continuing to grow beyond the initial 28-day measurement period and reaching 8.1 million viewers to date.
The first series follows Sue (Sue Johnston), who is given a second-hand Ann Droid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot, Linda (Diane Morgan), by her son Michael (Paul Ready). Hoping to help his mother live independently while he focuses on repairing his marriage, Michael leaves Linda to assist Sue. Initially reluctant to use the robot, Sue gradually develops an unlikely and poignant friendship with Linda as she learns to navigate the later stages of her life with her new companion by her side.

Diane Morgan said: “The response to Ann Droid has been so incredible. We’re all totally blown away. I’m really looking forward to not blinking, needing physio and hearing Cotton Eye Joe on repeat.”
Sue Johnston said: “I am so unbelievably happy that we are to do another series! Great script, great cast, great crew. The reaction from the public has been wonderful. Even my doctor called me Sue, Sue, Sue this morning! Everyone has been asking if there will be more and now we can tell them! Yippee.”
