One of the most eagerly awaited events of the month is the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, taking place in Venice from 2 to 12 September. The month begins in Italy with the Venice Production Bridge, running from September 3-9 during the Venice International Film Festival. The industry platform includes the Venice Gap-Financing Market, Book Adaptation Rights Market, Final Cut in Venice and Meet the Streamers, alongside the new VPB Locations Market.

French content then takes centre stage with the 32nd Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre, scheduled for September 7-10. International buyers will meet French distributors and discover hundreds of new programmes across drama, animation, documentary and performing arts.

North America will also become increasingly important this year with the launch of TIFF: The Market, running September 10-16 alongside the Toronto International Film Festival. The seven-day business event is designed to connect the global film, television and innovation industries through screenings, sales, financing, pitching and networking.

Meanwhile, the technology side of the broadcasting business gathers at IBC 2026, taking place at RAI Amsterdam from September 11-14, with AI, cloud production, content provenance, cybersecurity and next-generation broadcast technology among the key themes.

One of the busiest periods arrives in the middle of the month. BCWW runs in Seoul from September 14-16, bringing together Korean and international broadcasters, OTT platforms, producers and distributors, while Cartoon Forum takes place in Toulouse from September 14-17 with 66 European animated projects seeking broadcasters, investors and co-production partners.

At the same time, Seriesly Berlin, September 14-17, will bring international series, creators, broadcasters and streaming platforms to the German capital, while France's Festival de la Fiction returns to La Rochelle from September 15-20 for its 28th edition.

The documentary business will head north for Nordisk Panorama, taking place in Malmö from September 17-22. Its industry programme includes a market and the Nordisk Panorama Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries, connecting Nordic producers with broadcasters, funds and international partners.

Spain will then take a central role in the second half of the month. The San Sebastián International Film Festival, September 18-26, will host a broad industry programme including WIP Europa, WIP Latam, Spanish Screenings and the Creative Investors' Conference.

Animation executives will meanwhile gather in Canada for the Ottawa International Animation Festival, celebrating its 50th anniversary from September 23-27. Its business-focused TAC – The Animation Conference, running September 23-25, brings together producers, buyers, platforms and distributors for pitching, co-production and networking.

September closes with one of the year's key meetings for Spanish- and Portuguese-language content. Iberseries & Platino Industria returns to Matadero Madrid from September 29 to October 2, combining the MAI (Madrid Audiovisual Industry Market ) international market, Iberscreenings, conferences, co-production and financing activities and an extensive programme of platform and production-company pitches.
