Marlo Miazga Launches M Media With First Greenlight for Ground Control
Marlo Miazga, founder, editor, showrunner, creator and executive producer, has launched M Media, a new IP-driven media company focused on developing and delivering scripted and unscripted entertainment across platforms and channels. M Media’s first project is Ground Control, a feature documentary based on Miazga’s forthcoming memoir Ground Control: Losing My Child to Suicide. The book, commissioned by Random House Canada, an imprint of Penguin Random House, chronicles the devastating loss of Miazga’s 14-year-old child, Mars, to suicide in November 2020 and its aftermath.

The documentary has been developed alongside the memoir, with production financing now secured through a collaboration between Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program, the Canada Media Fund’s POV program and the Rogers Documentary Fund. The project has also received its first broadcast greenlight, with CBC in Canada commissioning the film. Production is scheduled to begin in October, with delivery planned for spring 2027, following the official publication of the memoir. The book will be released on January 26, 2027 and was co-written by Miazga and writer and journalist Katrina Onstad.
Miazga said: “As M Media officially launches, the greenlight for Ground Control marks a deeply personal and professional turning point. After this period of reflection and planning, I’ve built the foundations of a company rooted in resilience, creativity, and ethical storytelling. We know how to make great shows, that has been proven countless times, the secret now is how to make them whilst experimenting, learning, adapting and remaining open, curious and kind. I’m now ready to tell the most important story of my life and to bring other stories that matter to audiences worldwide.”

Award-winning Canadian director and writer Chase Joynt (No Ordinary Man, Framing Agnes) is directing the documentary, with Greg Beer and Katrina Onstad writing. Miazga will serve as executive producer alongside Catalyst founder Julie Bristow, a long-time advocate for mental health. Ryan Dias will also executive produce. Eyesteel Films will handle the theatrical distribution of the documentary in Canada, while worldwide rights outside Canada are currently available.
