Spanish broadcaster laSexta will premiere the acclaimed British crime drama Grace in Prime Time on Wednesday, August 12. Based on the bestselling novels by Peter James, the series stars John Simm as brilliant but unconventional detective Roy Grace. The series follows Superintendent Roy Grace, a talented investigator whose career and personal life are marked by challenges, including the unresolved disappearance of his wife six years earlier. As he investigates complex cases within Brighton’s police department, Grace relies on his instincts and unconventional methods to uncover the truth.
Grace is adapted from Peter James’ successful book series featuring Roy Grace, one of the UK’s most popular crime fiction franchises. James’ novels have been translated into 37 languages, sold more than 21 million copies worldwide and achieved 17 number-one positions on the Sunday Times bestseller list. His latest Roy Grace novel, Find Them Dead, spent seven weeks at the top of the UK sales charts in 2020.
The television adaptation stars John Simm (Life on Mars, Doctor Who) as Roy Grace and Richie Campbell as Detective Sergeant Glenn Branson. The series is written by Russell Lewis, creator of Endeavour and known for his work on Lewis, with Julia Ford and John Alexander directing.
Facing scrutiny over his unconventional policing methods, a local murder trial and doubts from his superiors, Grace continues to be haunted by his wife’s disappearance. When his longtime friend and colleague Glenn Branson seeks his advice on a new case, Grace becomes involved in two investigations that will test his instincts and investigative skills.
Produced by Second Act Productions, Tall Story Pictures and Vaudeville Productions for ITV, Grace premiered in the UK in March 2021. Its first episode, Dead Simple, attracted 8.77 million viewers, becoming the fifth most-watched programme of the week in the UK and leading ITV to renew the series for subsequent seasons. Since its debut, Grace has expanded internationally, reaching audiences beyond the UK.
