3Cat's highly anticipated drama Gènesi, inspired by the culinary revolution led by Ferran Adrià and the legendary El Bulli restaurant, will premiere on September 21 on TV3 and the 3Cat platform. Netflix will subsequently launch the six-part series across Spain, Europe, Latin America and the United States in November. Directed by David Pujol, Gènesi explores the origins of one of the most influential cultural and gastronomic movements of recent decades, tracing how Ferran Adrià, together with Juli Soler and Albert Adrià, transformed the iconic El Bulli into a global benchmark for haute cuisine.
Backed by Ferran Adrià himself—who has described it as "the best culinary series ever made"—the production was conceived to showcase Catalan creativity and gastronomy to international audiences.
The cast is led by Miquel Fernández as Ferran Adrià, alongside Ivan Massagué as Juli Soler. The ensemble also includes Mónica López, Carlos Cuevas, Joana Vilapuig, Pere Arquillué and Mario Gas.

Originally conceived in 2025 to coincide with Catalonia being named a World Gastronomy Region, Gènesi is a 3Cat original co-produced by Minoria Absoluta and Fishcorb Media, in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia and with support from the ICEC. Netflix has acquired international distribution rights for the series outside Catalonia.
Beyond recounting the rise of El Bulli, the series celebrates Catalan culinary heritage, highlighting traditional cuisine, local ingredients, regional landscapes and the chefs who helped shape the country's gastronomic identity. Among the renowned culinary figures featured are Oriol Castro, Santi Santamaría, Fermí Puig and Christian Escribà, whose contributions help contextualize El Bulli's lasting legacy.

The drama unfolds across two parallel timelines. One follows a young Ferran Adrià in the 1980s as he unexpectedly arrives at El Bulli, where his meeting with Juli Soler sparks the beginning of a culinary revolution that would ultimately turn the small restaurant in Cala Montjoi into the world's most celebrated dining destination. Running alongside this true story is the fictional narrative of Glòria Canabach, a retired food critic haunted by guilt who returns from the United States following her father's death. Reconnecting with her niece Lola, she decides to reopen the family's Can Canabach restaurant. Together, they embody a more intimate and emotional vision of haute cuisine, one rooted in family traditions, memory and identity while seeking to reconcile innovation with heritage.
