Mediaset Bets on Female-Led Drama and International Formats for Its New Fiction Slate

Mediaset Bets on Female-Led Drama and International Formats for Its New Fiction Slate
Mediaset has unveiled its upcoming fiction line-up, presented by Pier Silvio Berlusconi during the group’s traditional July meeting with the Italian press. The new slate combines returning Canale 5 brands, major Italian stars and adaptations of scripted properties from South Korea, France and Spain.
The strategy confirms the increasingly recognisable identity of Mediaset’s prime-time fiction: emotionally driven stories, strong female protagonists, family secrets, crime, romance and personal redemption.

Vanessa Incontrada Leads Two International Adaptations

Vanessa Incontrada will be one of the key faces of the new season, starring in two new fiction projects based on international scripted properties.
The first is Un Mondo Bellissimo, a four-episode drama adapted from a South Korean format and directed by Monica Vullo. The project places Incontrada at the centre of another emotionally charged family story, continuing the actress’s strong association with women forced to confront trauma, protect their families and search for the truth.

The role fits the profile that Mediaset has developed around Incontrada in recent years. In Tutto quello che ho, she played a lawyer and mother whose family is devastated by the disappearance of her daughter, while in Fosca Innocenti she portrayed a police officer whose investigations were closely intertwined with her personal and emotional life.

Incontrada will also star in Erica, the Italian adaptation of the French scripted series inspired by Camilla Läckberg’s bestselling crime novels. She will be joined by Scianna in a story combining investigation, mystery, local community life and personal relationships.

Viola come il mare Returns for Season Three
Among the returning titles is the third season of Viola come il mare, one of Canale 5’s most recognisable contemporary fiction brands.
The series blends crime, romance and female-led drama, following journalist Viola Vitale as she becomes involved in police investigations while searching for answers about her own past. Rodrigo Guirao Diaz is the new inspector (as Can Yaman left for other projects) and the series is produced by Lux Vide (Fremantle).

Can Yaman Moves into Thriller with Il Labirinto delle Farfalle
The project represents a darker development in the actor’s Italian career, moving him away from the romantic-comedy image that initially established his popularity and towards mystery and psychological thriller.

Sabrina Ferilli Returns with A Testa Alta

The first season centred on Virginia, a respected headteacher and mother whose life is shattered after an intimate video is circulated online. In the second season, the story focuses on her son, who is accused of femicide.

Anna Valle will also return with a new season of Una Nuova Vita.
In the first season, she had to prove her own innocence; in the second, she must prove that of her son, who has been accused of murder.

Another new project is Madre Terra – Il Segreto delle Origini, currently being directed by Cinzia TH Torrini. The series follows a scientist who grew up in Germany and returns to Calabria to lead a clinical trial for an innovative bergamot-based drug. There, she meets Antonio, a bergamot producer, and a dangerous attraction develops between them, fuelled by a tragedy that has divided their two families.

Italian actor Marco Bocci will lead Alex Bravo, playing an unconventional police officer.

In October, Mediaset is also expected to broadcast Il Mio Nome è Carlo, a television film dedicated to Carlo Acutis.
Directed by Giacomo Campiotti and co-produced by Movie Magic International and RTI, the film recounts the life of the young Milanese Catholic known for using digital technology to communicate his faith.
