CANAL+ Commits €980 Million to French Cinema in Landmark Five-Year Deal
CANAL+ has signed a landmark five-year agreement with leading French film industry organizations, committing €980 million to support French and European cinema from 2028 through 2032. Described as an unprecedented agreement between a broadcaster and the film sector, the long-term commitment covers both CANAL+ and CINÉ+ OCS and is designed to reinforce the role of cinema within France’s cultural and creative ecosystem.
The deal aims to preserve the French model of film financing while ensuring continued investment in a broad range of productions. In addition to its financial commitment, the agreement introduces structural measures intended to promote balanced industry growth and strengthen support for emerging filmmakers, debut features, diverse storytelling, animated films, mid-budget productions and large-scale titles with broad audience appeal.
The signatories also agreed on a series of qualitative commitments to improve the visibility of films and encourage greater diversity across French film production.

The agreement comes as the film industry continues to adapt to changing distribution models and evolving audience habits. By establishing a five-year framework, the parties aim to provide long-term stability for authors, directors, producers, distributors and broadcasters while preserving France’s media chronology system, which remains a cornerstone of film financing in the country.
Maxime Saada, CEO of CANAL+, said: "I am delighted with this new agreement, which highlights the longstanding ties between CANAL+ and cinema. By investing a record amount of nearly 1 billion euros over an unprecedented five-year term, we are proud to reaffirm our support for cinema, its power, creativity, and diversity. The very best of cinema is on CANAL+ just six months after its theatrical release and will remain so for many years to come."

Cinema has been central to CANAL+ since the pay-TV platform was launched, and the renewed partnership ensures subscribers will continue to access major French, European and international films six months after their theatrical release.
