Portugal Film Commission returned to the Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA), reinforcing the country's international animation strategy at one of the industry's leading global events, held in France from June 23-26. As the industry market of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, MIFA brought together animation professionals from around the world while showcasing projects, facilitating co-production opportunities and fostering international partnerships.

This year's festival also highlighted Portuguese talent with two award-winning productions featuring Portuguese participation. Decorado, directed by Alberto Vázquez and co-produced by Sardinha em Lata, received the Paul Grimault Award, while Alice Eça Guimarães' short film Because Today Is Saturday won the Annecy City Special Award. A further seven Portuguese-produced or co-produced titles were also included in the festival's official programme.
During MIFA, the Portuguese Spotlight Pitch presented five Portuguese animation projects to international buyers, commissioners and potential co-production partners. Two additional Portuguese projects also participated in the market's short film pitching sessions, expanding their opportunities for financing and international distribution.

Portugal's presence at the event also featured networking and promotional activities at the national animation stand, organized by the Portuguese Animation Producers Association (APPA) and Casa da Animação. An industry reception held on June 24 brought together animation professionals for informal networking and business meetings.
Portugal previously served as the spotlight country at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2024, presenting a dedicated programme of screenings, pitching sessions, talks, masterclasses and other activities celebrating the country's animation industry.
