LA Screenings Independents 2026 Opens with Strong Turkish Presence
LA Screenings Independents 2026 officially opened its doors on Thursday, May 14 at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, unveiling a refreshed edition of the market with a new venue, more than 50 exhibiting companies. The new location, widely praised by attendees for its elegant suites, bright meeting spaces and strategic position in Los Angeles, immediately contributed to a dynamic networking atmosphere during the first day of the event.

This year’s edition once again highlights the dominance of Turkish distributors within the scripted arena. Companies such as Inter Medya, Calinos Entertainment, OGM Universe, Kanal D International, ATV Distribution and MediaHub are strongly represented at the market, bringing a wide slate of premium drama series that continue to travel successfully across international territories.

However, one of the most talked-about trends at this year’s LA Screenings Independents is undoubtedly the rise of vertical micro-dramas. The format, built around ultra-short episodes lasting just two or three minutes and designed primarily for mobile consumption, is rapidly becoming one of the industry’s newest growth areas. Turkish distributor Inter Medya is among the pioneers of this emerging segment with the vertical drama titled "Boardroom to Bedroom"According to Beatriz Cea Okan, vice president and head of sales and acquisitions at the company, several deals are expected to close shortly after the market.

Latin America is also strongly represented across the exhibitor lineup.  Globo is offering a rich lineup of prime time telenovelas (Tres Gracias), scripted format (Paginas de la Vida remade in Portugal) and microdramas. Brazilian company Seriella arrives in Los Angeles with four drama productions already acquired by Disney+, underlining the increasing global appeal of Brazilian scripted content. Meanwhile, Mexican distributor Comarex is showcasing a broad catalogue that includes productions from Canal Once, Chilean fiction from Canal 13, and religious programming from Mediaset.

Beyond drama, unscripted formats are also attracting strong buyer attention. Among the players is Dori Media, which continues to expand the international footprint of its successful relationship format The Power Couple. The show has already proven particularly successful in Latin America through the recent adaptation by ViX+ with Apostarias por me?  and The Auction locally adapted by America TV with the local title La subasta.
